Jury Dooty, Part 2: Killer in a Bank Robber’s Car
The second time I served as a juror happened about ten years after my first experience in the jurors' box. The latest trial was a murder/vehicular manslaughter/hit-and-run case where the defendant was accused of driving drunk, ramming into a car ahead of him at almost 70 miles hour on a city street, and sending that car into oncoming traffic where it was T-boned by another car.
The two occupants of the rammed vehicle were killed almost instantly. They were in their 50s. One was a musician and non-drinker (the husband) and one (the wife) was a pediatric physician. It was 9:30 pm and they were just coming home from a restaurant, where they had dinner with a friend.
We (the jury) saw photos (that were awful) and heard jailhouse confessions (by stupid people), and police interviews (a week later) with the drunk driver and the dumbass young women (liars) that were in the speeding car with him.
How did I get selected for jury duty?!
But let’s back up to the beginning: how I got selected to be an alternate juror on this DUI/Murder case anyway. There’s no way it should have happened, even though I don’t believe in trying not to serve. Every citizen should do their duty and serve on a jury when called to, otherwise, you get people who are too stupid to get out of jury duty serving on cases and who seriously…
